"A Living History of the Powhatan People" - TBA for the 2011 season.

Return to the 17th century and see how the Powhatan Indian people lived and survived. Through historical interpretation, lectures, and hands-on activities; see, hear and experience a Powhatan village as it was when the first English colonists arrived. All located in the Historic Villages at Cape Henry, minutes away from the First Landing site on the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek - Fort Story.

Hands-on activities may include: tanning tools, pouches, shell tools, bead baskets and furs. Also, clothing, bows arrows, fishing tools, fire making tools, hunting display, drills and cordage are available. Set in a traditional hunting/fishing village within a maritime woodland, the programs provide a realistic environment, focusing the audience's attention on the history and culture of the Powhatan People.

Programs may be tailored to suit different grade level requirements and school programs and to compliment many areas of study. Beyond traditional social studies, the program illustrates how food was grown, gathered and prepared by the Woodland Indians (home economics). It can also display how Powhatan Indians lived and preserved the natural environment (science and ecology). This Powhatan Educational Presentation shows the traditions of the First People through material culture, crafts, music and art.
